It is time to announce the winner's of the sixth annual Trixie and the Moai awards.

It's always hard to pick just 5 favorites from my year's reading. I don't know if this year was hard because I read so many or because it was just a hard year - yet again! There's no rhyme or reason, just a gut response and a lingering feeling of appreciation.

2021 Finalists for the Trixie and the Moai Book Award

It's the sixth anniversary of the celebrating the five best books (that I read) of the year!

The second year of our plague- 2021- has been a shockingly full year, what with insurrection kicking it off -though if we start counting the year of our plague as being March 11 (the day the WHO declared it a pandemic) then that nightmare is still in year 1 of our plague, but old traditions like a new year beginning on January 1st are hard to break...

At any rate, once again this year has been full of more audiobooks than in my pre-plague life because there's a dearth of non-book media that soothes my soul. I've read 56 audiobooks and some of them I only managed to finish because they were audiobooks and did not require my eyes to complete. Others were so amazing and it's impossible to say what was the author's amazingness and what was the audiobook reader's!

Oh, one more thing before I move on to the finalists! I decided to set a book reading goal of reading primarily women. In the past I've set a number and while I could easily have done that this year, I didn't like feeling like I was reading a book just to complete it and to mark one more book on my tally sheet. Reading for me has always been first and foremost about pleasure, and trying to reach some arbitrary number, even an albeit self-selected arbitrary number seemed counterproductive. And I think it did my reading life some good! I don't remember how many books I quit reading because they weren't floating my boat- but easily upwards of 20. That used to be unthinkable to me. Not no more!

Okay, so let's look at the finalists for the sixth annual Trixie and the Moai Book Award!
