Coronavirus: Sheltering in Place Installment #9 My Sourdough Starter

Sourdough starters....

Pre-state-sanctioned-murder-of-black-people-during-a-fucking-global-pandemic people were really into their starters. And I have been making bread for years. And a couple of years ago I read Sourdough by Robin Sloan and learned that you can actually capture wild yeast!! Blew my mind!! Then last year I tried to capture some. 'Twas an abysmal failure! To the nth degree!! But my friend that recommended Sourdough knew that I had tried and so when during this global pandemic a professor in North Carolina wanted people to do it for science, my friend told me all about it and kept urging me to do it. Oh, boy! It was awful last time!!!

I read the site and talked to a friend of mine who is sheltering-in-place with her seven-year old and well, the three of us embarked on making yeast babies. It actually was fascinating! We both did indoor and outdoor starters and even though we were doing this in April (April 24th to be exact) it was too hot outside for my starter to even start. Her starters and mine were so different, all along! And then I added a white starter to my wheat starter because I ran out of wheat! Anyway, here is a visual record of my yeast baby journey.
